How long have you been in business?
Ensler Lighting has been in business since 1973. Elaine Ensler started out selling antiques, and antique lighting fixtures. Over the years the shop has moved towards exclusively lamps, lighting and lamp shades. The shop has been run by Elaine Ensler; her husband Henry Ensler, her son Edward Ensler and now by Howard Ensler. I (Howard) helped start the business in 1973 and did refinishing of furnature and lamps. I refurbished the first several hundred lamps that the store sold. I recently came back into the business after the passing of my younger brother Edward to run the business for my Father. I have been active in the business since Summer of 2008. My past employement in sales of electrical supplies, computer software and maintenance industries has provided additional resouces that I have brought to the business.
What is your primary product or service?
Primary business service is the repair, restoration and refurbishment of lamps and lighting fixtures of all kinds. Incandecent, flourscent, and halogen lamps are all serviced. We repair cieling fixtures, table and floor lamps whether old or neww. We have repaired lamps from the early 1900's to the most modern fixtures. We also specialize in the sale and fitting of lamp shades. We have an extensive selection of both Silk and hardback shades. Our selection of instock shades numbers over 800 on the shelves. We can also order shades made to order. Most of our shades are made in the United States. We also carry a large selection of glass lamp shades and are well known for being able to supply replacement glass shades.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I first became interested in lighting when I worked in Los Angeles selling electrical supplies to hardware stores and in lighting more specifically when I worked for Westinghouse supply locally. I have always been interesed in antiques.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Locally owned and operated. Long history in the business. Large selection of lamp shades, glass shades and lamp parts. We are the shop people come to when they want someone to fix their lamp.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We have one location. Same location since 1973.
