The Western Institute for Social Change (WISR) offers personalized Bachelor's, Master's and EdD degree programs to those who wish to combine academic studies and community-based inquiry with their community and professional involvements. We have an Master's program that leads to the State MFT and LPCC counseling licenses, and all our programs are interdisciplinary, covering the realm of education, social change, community services, community leadership and psychology.
We also collaborate with community groups in community-action projects.
We are a multicultural learning community that engages people who are deeply and continually committed to progressive social change. For over three decades, WISR has successfully supported the creative, community involvement efforts of over 200 adult learners. WISR students and the communities with which they are involved reflect great geographic, intellectual and cultural diversity. Our extraordinary students offer an exciting community for your studies where “Multicultural is WISeR ”.
WISR faculty are a very distinctive group of people, capable of combining intellectual rigor with practical know-how, and eager to guide, mentor, support, and collaborate in personalized ways with each student.
WISR also hosts periodic community dialogues and opportunities to view and discuss documentaries, video clips of current events and other films on social issues--in an environment conducive to reflection, friendly dialogue and community engagement.

Taught for a few years previously in traditional and nontraditional colleges--WISR was founded in 1975 by four of us.
